Why should children play more?

Children learn so much from play; it teaches them social skills such as sharing, taking turns, self discipline and tolerance of others. Children’s lives are enhanced by playing creatively and by playing children learn and develop as individuals; it assists in their emotional and intellectual development and mental health resilience which are core building blocks for their transition years. In OSHC we watch our children learn new skills and enjoy the pure act of physical play.

Generation Z are also known as the iPad generation, they are the first generation never to have experienced life in a pre-internet world. This means that they will never have unanswered questions, they have access to a range of different cultures, languages, histories, ideologies and perspectives all at their fingertips. Generation Z will grow up with technology that we can’t even imagine at the moment, this technology will make the world smaller, Social Media has already had a huge part to play in this, we can share video conversations with people across the other side of the world, we can keep up to date with friends from different states and countries and while this world is exciting it also has a dark side. The older generations will never know what it is like to be cyber-bullied as a teenager, harassed by strangers online and mocked by your classmates at any time of the day. So it is understandable that parents and carers are asking the question, what age should children be allowed Social Media accounts?
